Vacaville Public Library
Vacaville, California

Intended to stimulate growth in downtown Vacaville, the Library borders a new urban plaza also designed by Dean Unger. The Library occupies 15,000 square feet, with a second floor containing 10,000 square feet of office space. The entry portico shelters a fine bronze sculpture and is capped with a 40-foot square skylight. The exterior is red brick with a white concrete base and generous cornice projections. The interior ceiling is grided with skylights and soft indirect lighting, and dedicated reading areas overlook Vacaville's newly-renovated Ulatis Creek walk. This design-build project received Local Redevelopment Bond Issue funding toward the estimated construction cost of $3.5M, and opened on schedule in January, 2005.
